(travel) airline industry faces pilot shortage
although prospects for growth in the industry look promising, many worry about the lack of personnel.
based on predictions, asia’s airplane fleet is expected to triple over the next two decades, with the demand for new planes amounting to nearly 13,000. however, there is one concern – will there be enough pilots to fly them and enough technicians to maintain them?
many airlines, especially in asia pacific, are now in desperate need of pilots. in fact, it has been reported that half a million pilots will be needed globally by 2032 to meet the explosion in demand for air travel. with regard to the shortage, aircraft manufacturer boeing, which runs pilot training schools in various parts of the world, plans to stay ahead of the problem by teaming up with governments, training agencies and airlines, and focusing on a training curriculum that allows the training of those pilots.
meanwhile, technicians are also said to be in short supply. the need to work day and night, and often in poor weather conditions, has put many young people off entering the industry, thus making it difficult for airlines to recruit talent.
